Ping Users Top One Million in Two Days

Wow, didn’t think it would grow that fast… Ping, Apple’s music-focused social network, has already topped one million users in the first two days.

“One-third of the people who have downloaded iTunes 10 have joined Ping,“ said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services. “As many more people download iTunes 10 in the coming weeks, we expect the Ping community to continue growing.“

OpenFeint Announces PlayTime

Recetnly, OpenFeint announced its social network PlayTime, a way for people to play and chat in multiplayer games on their iOS device. Now, “OpenFeint is splitting its multiplayer services into two different paths: “Casual” games will use highscores to offer up multiplayer and even co-op challenges, while “Core” games will actually run real-time multiplayer, in conjunction with a system from a company called Exit Games.”

No word on an official release date but it is currently being tested and is planned to launch later this year. This does look promising though I have never honestly enjoyed the OpenFeint popup when I first start an app and usually end up choosing to dodge the features. Nevertheless, still something to keep a close eye on.

The New iPod shuffle

The final update of the day, the shuffle. This update really did bring the iPod shuffle back into the picture as the previous one was a lacking some features – and by features I mean buttons. This new update brought back the design of the second generation’s, just smaller. It includes a voiceover button, and a switch with three settings: shuffle, play in order, and off.

As for its features, the new shuffle has: buttons, voice over, genius, multiple playlists, and a 15 hour battery. The best part of this entire product? The price. The iPod shuffle will set you back a whopping $49 for 2 gigs. (Apple Store Link)

The New iPod touch

Today, if you didn’t know, Apple hosted a keynote and released multiple product updates, including a new, thinner iPod Touch. We do have a complete summary on the main site but this one is all about the new iPod touch.

The new iPod has both a front and back facing camera and the ability to record in HD. To no surprise it also has a retina display and the A4 processor to complement Game Center which comes pre-loaded alongside iOS 4.1. Overall, this was a very successful update that brought the iPod touch up to speed with the iPhone 4. It, like the other iPods is available for pre-order now. (Apple Store Link)
